2025-10-05 - SORA: the all Ai TikTok Clone. will slop end creativity?

Season 6 - Episode 50 - 10-05-2025
Casey shows a video of his wife Candice to her while in their car. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT is making a kind of TikTok but where every video is made by AI. All the AI videos are made with real people. Casey thinks that we are so completely f*cked. Everything is pure AI slop. An endless dribble of computer generated nonsense. What is more terrifying is that when you first launch the Sora app it asks to scan for your face then you put yourself in the slop by writing a prompt of what you want the video to be about. Casey shows an example. You can tag your friend and make slop from them. He makes another video with a friend and asks them how much time they spend on the app. The answer: too much. It is not boring as it get better and better. You can do everything you ever wanted since you were a kid! The future seems f*cked. There are some concerns of abuse and misuse as kids bullying other kids, or misrepresent their friends, without their consent... make people say things they would never say. As grown-up adults it is funny, but what if his child start to ask him to use the app? Casey buys funnels in a chef supply store. As a youtuber he has less concerns about the app. As a filmmaker, it calls a question. He takes a small funnel to show what content used to be generated (real movies...) and what good content we hare at the opposite side. It used to be hard to make a movie. You needed education, ideas, money, gear, expertise, actors, film crew, distributor. The content being made was small and the amount of good content was even smaller. While explaining this he interlace a lot of small Sora clips to back up what he is saying. Then with the democratization of TV and cable more stuff was made but there was still not a lot of really good content. Then with the creation of YouTube, it was no longer require to have expertise, money, crew... the barrier to entry was way lower, so the amount of content exploded, then Tiktok increased the top of the funnel even more, but the quality of the content... but now what happens when you remove all the creation process and reduce the whole process to just have to type a single sentence. And we can flip the direction and asks ourselves how many years away are we from being able to type everything we want in YouTube or Netflix and find a video that perfectly answers to that. Example: Jason Bourne moon landing. The top of the funnel becomes so big, filled with just slop. And what the bottom of the funnel become? There is a high risk that slop starts to overwhelm or displace actual creativity.
