2022-11-09 - i got beat up at the NYC Marathon 2022
Season 6 - Episode 15 - 11-09-2022
2022 Medal. 12 hours before the run, Casey is nervous. He does not know why, he has done that many times. 5 hours before, coffee. Cab ride to pick the bus. Start place. One hour before, he puts on his running clothes in a tent. 10 minutes before he is outside, esking people how they feel. 5 minutes before, bathroom time. Go time. Nieve is here too. Mile 2, feeling great, then... switch of location, Casey buys a newspaper and goes into his studio to talk about accountability. Shot the day before the marathon. Pie chart with his expectations. 3 and 4 hours. His fastest marathon ever is 3:01. No chance he can do that this year. Between 3:01 and 3:10 it would require a damn miracle to achieve. 3:10 and 3:20 would be a major reach. 3:20 3:40 is where he expects to be. Back to the marathon day. Lots of videos from fans. Mile 10 he does not feel good. Nieve feels even worse and asks Casey to finish the marathon for both of us. He bailed. So now he is on his own. He walks a little bit, run again in Queens, walk mile 15. It is time to acknowledge that pain is just weakness leaving the body, and every step he is getting stronger. Footage from his first marathon, the hardest race he has ever run. Since then each race has been easier... until this year. Not feeling good in Bronx. A guy says "we may be dying but we are not dead yet". A run like that is not just about running, it is about celebrating, the city, the crowd, the cops, the helpers enabling it. A collective shared experience. There is no winning or loosing, just do what you can. 47,839 people completed the 26.2 mile New York City Marathon in 2022. It took him 3 hours and 54 minutes, his slowest marathon ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lGLhhoIsNc
